Total signs partnership with Veilig Verkeer Nederland

Thursday 12 September Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN = Dutch Road Safety Association) and Total in The Netherlands signed a three year partnership and will work together to improve blind spot information and education.

This was done by Olivier van Parys on behalf of the M&S, E&P and GR&P affiliates and Evert-Jan Hulshof, Director of VVN.

Total in the Netherlands and VVN will work together in the coming years on two main projects:

  1. Further development of the augmented reality application 'Uit de hoek'
  2. Distribution to schools of the book 'Ontsnapt uit de dode hoek' from the famous Dutch children's books writer Paul van Loon, known for his books Griezelbus, Dolfje Weerwolfje etc.

The signing ceremony took place on the school 'Het Volle Leven' in Scheveningen, where the writer Paul van Loon was present with his famous 'Griezelbus'.

The importance of road safety and blind spot education and information also has the attention of Dutch politics. The Minister of Infrastructure & Water Management, Cora van Nieuwenhuizen, was present at the school as well to kick of the annual VVN campaign 'De Scholen zijn weer begonnen' that alerts drivers to care for the many school children in traffic after a relatively quiet holiday period.

Paul van Loon and Cora van Nieuwenhuizen read the children from the book and each child received his own copy afterwards.

A press release  (in Dutch only) about the agreement between Total and VVN and this morning's event will be distributed by VVN later today.
